LINDSAY FOSTER
I'VE BEEN PLAYING MUSIC FOR AS LONG AS I CAN REMEMBER. I PICKED UP THE FLUTE WHEN I WAS TEN YEARS OLD AND I NEVER PUT IT DOWN. FAST-FORWARD TWENTY YEARS AND I'M LIVING THE DREAM THAT I ALWAYS WANTED—SHARING THE JOY OF MUSIC-MAKING WITH OTHERS.
I earned my Bachelor of Music degree in Flute Performance from the University of Ottawa under the tutelage of Camille Churchfield, former principal flute of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, and my Master of Music degree in Flute Performance from Roosevelt University's Chicago College of Performing Arts under the tutelage of Eugenia Moliner, flutist of the critically acclaimed Cavatina Duo. I was an active ensemble player, performing regularly in orchestras, wind ensembles, and numerous chamber groups.
Despite my affinity towards performing, I believe that music transcends the stage. I'm especially passionate about music education, having worked with adults as a band clinician and children through programs modelled after the El System philosophy. I'm also immersed in the business of music, valuing the management skills necessary to sustain a life as a musician. I have a second Masters degree in Performing Arts Administration, additionally from Roosevelt University's Chicago College of Performing Arts. I have held administrative internships with the People's Music School and the renowned Civic Orchestra of Chicago. I was also an Operations Assistant supporting the award-winning Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras, and Program Coordinator for OrKidstra, a social development program which gives youth the opportunity to find their voice and realize their potential by making music together. I'm currently the flute instructor at Turnbull School's After School Music program and a flute tutor at Ashbury College. I'm also a member of the Ontario Registered Music Teachers' Association.
When I don't have my flute in my hands, you'll find me baking, crocheting, or spending quality time with my partner, Roberto, and our miniature schnauzer, Murphy.
