Lindsay Rivera (Foster)

"I'VE BEEN PLAYING MUSIC FOR AS LONG AS I CAN REMEMBER. I PICKED UP THE FLUTE WHEN I WAS TEN YEARS OLD AND I NEVER PUT IT DOWN. FAST-FORWARD TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AND I'M LIVING THE DREAM THAT I ALWAYS WANTED—SHARING THE JOY OF MUSIC-MAKING WITH OTHERS."

Lindsay has distinguished herself as one of Ottawa's leading flute teachers. She has been running Foster's Flute Studio since 2016 and maintains a roster of up to 30 students. Her students have been selected to pursue University Bachelor of Music degrees. They regularly compete in the Ottawa Kiwanis Music Festival and have been awarded first and second place at the Ontario Music Festival Association Provincial Competition. They have held principal flute positions with the Ottawa Youth Orchestra Academy and consistently achieve First Class Honours on their Royal Conservatory of Music Examinations.

Lindsay earned her Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Ottawa under the tutelage of Camille Churchfield—former Principal Flute of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, and her Master of Music degree from Roosevelt University's Chicago College of Performing Arts (CCPA) under the tutelage of Eugenia Moliner—flutist of the critically acclaimed Cavatina Duo. She was an active ensemble player, performing regularly in orchestras, wind ensembles, and numerous chamber groups.

Valuing the business skills necessary to sustain a life as a musician, Lindsay earned a second master's degree in Performing Arts Administration, additionally from CCPA. She has held administrative internships with the People's Music School—the only completely free music school serving Chicago metropolitan area children, and the renowned Civic Orchestra of Chicago—the United States' premier training program for young professional musicians. She also worked as an Operations Assistant supporting the award-winning Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras, and Program Coordinator for Ottawa's OrKidstra—a social development program giving youth the opportunity to find their voice and realize their potential by making music together.
"Lindsay is an absolute gem of a teacher; kind, reliable and patient. She loves what she does and it shows. Five stars, all well deserved."
When I'm not playing flute
these are a few of my favourite things...

ROBERTO

My husband and I have been making music together since we met in 2014. He's the former Principal French Horn of the Kingston Symphony.

MURPHY

The sweet miniature schnauzer mix that completed my little family. He brings immense joy to everyday moments.

BAKING

Cookies and cakes are my go-to—especially if chocolate is involved. Fun fact: I made the three-tier cake at my wedding!

PUZZLES

Find me on a weekend savouring a 500-piece Hobbry puzzle. Those with illustrations by Toronto artist Nicole Lalonde are irresistible.

CROCHET

There's something so satisfying about watching your handmade creations come to life. Blankets, home decor, stuffies for my nieces and nephews—I'm addicted.
